The annual Koh Chang Beach Cricket Tournament was held over a long weekend from Friday 21st through Sunday the 23rd of August 2020.
This was the 6th beach cricket tournament held at the Shambhala Beach Bar at Siam Royal View in Klong Son village on Koh Chang island. I can’t quite believe it’s in its sixth year already. I got roped into comparing it the very first year. How time flies!
There was a record sixteen teams taking part this year from all over Thailand including; Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, as well as Koh Chang’s local beach cricket heroes.
Beach Cricket Rules
It’s a fun, family friendly event for both participants and spectators in a beautiful beachfront setting on our favourite island of Koh Chang.
There was plenty of food, beer tents and masseurs on-site and the event was of course free to view.
The idyllic beachfront setting has a swimming pool and delightful liquid refreshments from the swim-up bar is certainly a great place from which to chillax and watch the games unfold.
The competition ran from 12pm on Friday, from 8am until 5pm on the Saturday and from 9am until the men’s and ladies finals in the middle of Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday evening 15 Palms Beach Resort and Restaurant hosted a reception for all the players and we also enjoyed a superb buffet of Turkish and European food. Thanks Tony!!!
Sunday morning started with a swim before breakfast in KC Grand Resort‘s pool followed by a walk on the beach.
As I forgot to pay my bar tab on Saturday, we headed back across the mountain to square up at Shambhala and also managed to squeeze in a leg massage.
We left at midday on Sunday to meet friends at 15 Palms in White Sand Beach to feast on a Sunday roast. No trip to the island over a weekend is complete until you’ve had a roast with all the trimmings.
Howzat!!
The organisers of the Koh Chang Beach Cricket Tournament really know how to hold a superb event, that like a fine wine, keeps getting better with each passing year. It was a fun weekend that was attended and enjoyed by several hundred people from all walks of life.
The tides were low, the sun was high and it was heart-warming to see loads of people hanging out and having fun together for the first time in a long time. This is what life is all about and if that’s not cricket, I don’t know what is!
