We recently returned from a relaxing time in the Maldives and all we keep hearing about is ‘Extinction Rebellion’. Haven’t we heard all this before?
Back in 1988 environmentalists predicted the Maldives would be under water within 30 years.
In 2006 Al Gore stated humanity may have only 10 years left to save the planet from turning into a total frying pan.
Now Extinction Rebellion and also recently Alexandria Ocasio Cortez are for-casting the end of the world in 10 years.
What’s with these 10 ten year end of days cycles?
Hasn’t someone been for-telling the end of the world, since the beginning of our time on earth?
When I was a young whipper-snapper, the guy with the ‘end is nigh’ sign was marginalized, often ridiculed and probably called a religious nut, nobody took him seriously. Now we witness the madness of crowds as thousands of people partake in this doom porn with the zeal of a new religion.
Anybody who knows me knows I planted a permaculture food forest over the last three years and grow most of our food naturally free of pesticides and herbicides. We also raise free range chickens and keep fish. More recently we invested in a neglected fruit farm and have turned it around and it is now 100% beyond organic.
We are also big on reusing and recycling resources which includes our house which is made from 4 shipping containers. We even recycle our grey water while saving as much rain water on site as possible.
I can’t actually think of anyone who actually comes close to doing all that we do. I meet plenty of people who talk a lot of green speak. Yes, they talk the talk, but they certainly don’t walk the walk. Well intentioned? Maybe… Virtue signalling? Positively!
We don’t push my lifestyle choices on others and I don’t like it when others try to dictate theirs.
Anyways, we were in the Maldives last week and I can categorically say it was not under water as predicted. Far from it. Although I would like to add, the Indian ocean was inviting as can be seen from the photo above.
I met a guy who was working there who was from Bhutan, ironically one of the highest countries in the world. The Maldives on the other hand is the lowest country in the world. It’s no more than 2 meters above sea level.
The Maldives is made up of just under 1200 low lying atolls and reefs. By all accounts, satellite images show these are actually increasing in size.
Meanwhile, other islands are being formed by dredging the sand up to create new bases for resorts and retail parks to be constructed.
We stayed at a place called Saii Lagoon Resort which shares a central marina ‘Crossroads’ with the Hard Rock Hotel. It’s an impressive feat of engineering and a very beautiful place to stay, if a little too artificial for my personal tastes.
However, It got me thinking… If the country was supposed to have joined Atlantis and be submerged below the waves by now, why would Hilton Hotels, Hard Rock, Singha Estates etc invest billions of dollars in an unsustainable sinking landscape.
Why would the banks support these huge developments and what companies would insure them?
I guess for the same reasons why would Al Gore and Barak Obama purchased beachfront estates in 2010 and 2019 respectively? Do as I say, not as I do!
Side Note: I was taken in by Al Gore and The Inconvenient Truth when I first saw the movie and read the book. Soon after I saw him doing an interview in the US drinking from a bottle of Fuji Water. I knew from that moment that he didn’t really care about the environment.
The international airport on Male is also expanding so it can accommodate larger aeroplanes and the increased numbers of tourists predicted to be making there way to these paradise islands in the Indian ocean.
Surly there’s some disconnect here from the environmental fear porn peddled the fake stream media and politicians, and by the likes of well-intentioned but misinformed (and Open Society funded) groups like the Extinction Rebellion.
At the end of the day we all want a clean and pleasant environment to live in and leave to the next generation.
I think a lot of people are being duped. The environmental concerns are being hijacked by Marxists to destroy the system. It’s a melon environmental movement. Green on the outside with a communist red core. The question is, if this system is brought down, what do the entities behind them have ready to replace it with? What’s next? Doesn’t anyone remember Pol Pot and Cambodia in the late 70’s?
If you want to live without modern amenities go for it, but if you’re marching in anything but bare feet you are part of the problem and a hypocrite.
Radicalise your own life before you try to change those around you. Stop using your cell phones, the Internet, any kind of transport, grow all your own food, make your own cloths from hemp, be a sovereign man or woman. Once you have worked out how to make that sustainable for yourself and then your community, then share your ideas with the wider world. I want to see living, breathing communities, not pie in the sky, utopian wet dream models. Then I’ll take you seriously.
We’ve been living a more sustainable and realistic lifestyle for a number of years now and we still have a way to go but the difference is we don’t ram our way of life down others throats.
Get out, see the world, (you can walk if you want) but it’s more convenient to take a plane or drive a car. Get first-hand experience of life outside your own safe, little world and expand your horizons beyond your blinkered world view.
Stop peddling your doom and gloom and look to the positives in life. Bonus… you’ll be less angry and more happy!
If you look back at recent history, only 50 or a hundred years ago, you’ll see you are living in an incredible age of health, wealth and innovation not even dreamed of by our ancestors. Truly a life less ordinary!
To deny the poor people of this world, you know the kids who mine your rare minerals for your iPhones or who live and work in unsafe factories for your disposable fashion, the things that you take for granted, well shame on you.
Take a trip to the Maldives, get some sun on your pasty skin and see for yourself what it really looks like. From there head over to Sri Lanka or Bangladesh or India and see how the poor live (hint… without your luxuries) and see what you can do to help make a positive impact on their lives.
Causing mayhem in major cities across the world won’t help your environmental cause, unless that’s the political smokescreen for another agenda. Then be careful what you wish for.
I always ‘follow the money’ to try and find the real agenda behind anything, so when I see Open Society behind a movement you don’t have to be a genius to know what the aim is, they make that quite clear.
I don’t have an agenda, but I know what I’m told, what I see and what little I know, there is certainly some shenanigans going on. Try joining a few dots and see where it leads you.
I’m more worried about the unknown consequences of geo-engineering, sovereign/personal debt and central banks causing massive destruction to our way of life.
It comes to something when a stand-up makes more sense than politicians but George Carlin sums my thought up when he said “the world isn’t fucked, we are!”. Rant over, take me back to the beach!
