2 Nights on Koh Mak Island

Mid February found us celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary, so we thought we’d get away to one of the many beautiful islands close to where we live.

Koh Mak is small island not far from Trat city. Only forty-five minutes on a speedboat from Laem Ngop and suddenly we find ourselves on Koh Mak at the oceanside Cococape Resort.

Price : Ticket 900 Baht /person return

The number of speedboats traveling between Koh Mak and Laem Ngop depends on the season. So check with your tour operator or hotel before you start island hopping.

Our hotel provided a shuttle service and were waiting for us when we arrived at the pier at Koh Mak. If your hotel doesn’t do a ‘pick-up’ service, you can easily get a taxi for 50 Baht at the pier on arrival.

Getting around Koh Mak is very easy by road on a motorcycle that can be readily hired at your resort for 300 Baht/day. It’s impossible to get lost on such a small island and as much as we tried to, we didn’t. Although we did find some beautiful ‘off the beaten track’ places to admire the views and relax by.

The roads are a lot safer on Koh Mak than Koh Chang, but as always be careful and wear a helmet. You holiday insurance won’t cover you and you’re a long way from a hospital!

Our Koh Mak Photos

One of the highlights of staying at Cococave Resort is that from their pier and friendly bar, sunrise and sunsets can both be witnessed from the same location. This is a good enough excuse if ever you needed one, to turn of your phone, read a good book and have the barman line up some coconut shakes with a shot of Malibu from dawn ’til dusk. The happiest of anniversaries! Chok Dii!
